My grandfather was born in 1912, on Friday the 13th. Regardless of that "fated" day on which he was born, he lived to be 94 years old until 2007. He grew up during the depression era on a farm in Kansas and learned to be very frugal. It wasn't just about money, rather learning to use everything that you had, and making sure to use it until it absolutely couldn't be used anymore. Even then everything was re-purposed into some new function. He learned to fix just about everything in the house, because you certainly weren't going to just throw "that" away and get a "new one" during an economic era like the Great Depression.
I love the fact that I can really celebrate this and remember this nearly ever single day because I have several pieces of furniture that were so well kept that they are at least two, some three, generations old. My dining room table was one that my grandfather and grandmother had in their kitchen from when my father was just a toddler; It's been refinished and loved for sure, but it is still incredibly useful! My dresser in my bedroom belonged to my maternal great-grandmother and has served a many great purposes for many in our family. One of the many times I've moved one of the drawers was damaged during the move, but my dad, channeling my grandfather, said, "don't worry, we can fix this."
Mary Magdalene, like many, was "fixed," by Jesus in her healing.
