Gathering in the Light 

Prelude to Worship

Invitation to Worship
one: Gather in awe before God, who laid the foundations of the earth. Open your hearts to the steadfast love God offers.
all:  The deeds of God are beyond our knowing. Yet we catch glimpses of God’s mercy and care.
one: God does not forsake us when we are dismayed and afraid. Our Creator is with us in all times and places.
all:  God is a stronghold for the oppressed and troubled. The needy and the poor are not forgotten.
one: God is ready to listen to us in these moments together. See, now is the acceptable time, the day of salvation. 
all:  Surely God will meet us here in our faith community! How good it is when we sense our unity with Christ!

one: Gathered together in this community of faith, we are a focusing point in time for the worship of all God’s children in the Earth and heaven.
ALL:  Wherever we are gathered, in whatever numbers, small or great, we show forth life of the great church invisible.
one: As the redeemed of God, let us enter into the communion of the saints.
ALL:  We offer our lives to God, forgetting ourselves in the great company of those who trust in God.

One: We may be thirsty and parched, like an un-watered garden, so we come into God’s presence:
ALL: The Divine One is a spring of water! 
One: We may be weary from worry and work so we come into God’s presence:
ALL: The Holy One offers us Sabbath rest!
One: We may be lost or confused so we come into God’s presence:
ALL: The Wise One offers us welcome and guidance!
One: We may be bent over with struggle or pain, so we come into God’s presence:
ALL: The Healing One empowers us to stand strong!
One: We have gathered in God's holy presence, the One who etches grace on our hearts.
ALL: This is the place where God will transform us into disciples,

Sabbatical Sent Out and Transition of Leadership

Mary Lou:  Laura, we all pray God’s blessings on you and for you as you depart today for this sabbatical leave, this time of renewal, spiritual study, and prayer.
 
ALL: As you journey, we ask God to guide you in all you do, in all that you will learn, and for all that you will be eager to return and teach us.
 
Laura:   May God’s wisdom and God’s peace and God’s Spirit be with us all as I depart from you for a short season to rest, renew my calling, and learn more of how to best lead you in the ways of continued growth in mission and in spirit.
 
ALL:  May you experience the gift of spiritual growth on your leave time, may your studies and your prayers be fruitful.  May you come back refreshed and excited for all that ministry can yet be in this church!
 
Laura: I pray that, as all of you study and pray during this time, God would lead you to know more and be ever-more-committed to doing those things that make for a thriving church who indeed continue to grow in discipleship.
 
ALL: We will pray for you and for all our staff and church leaders, that we might all be strengthened and renewed in this time.  We especially pray for Mark as he assumes new roles and challenges as our Sabbatical Minister during this season.
 
Laura: During my leave time, I will also pray for all of you, and use my time faithfully to renew and strengthen me to serve as your Senior Pastor.  I look forward to the ways God will use our shared growth in ministry together.
 
Mary Lou: We send you off with our blessing and our continuing prayers, and will greet your return with joy.
