Our Youth Group has been waiting patiently for our summer mission trip experience. We have three kids who haven't gotten the joy to be a part of our youth mission trips before.
We left KC during a welcome rain storm so it was interesting packing up the van. As we drove through east KC, Blue Springs, it rained so hard we could only drive 25 miles an hour for a time but soon we were past the storms only to get back into rain as we arrived into St. Louis.
Yesterday evening, after we checked in at the church, Union Avenue Christian Church, we headed out to dinner at a local favorite, Fitz's. It was quite the busy evening down in the Delmar Loop but we finally managed to find a place to park. (Never mind the driver of a big bus who didn't appreciate my shuttle bus parking abilities!)
Following dinner at Fitz's, a heavy rain let down again. After waiting till the rain calmed down some, Roy and Charlie walked to the shuttle and kindly picked the rest of us up at the restaurant. We then headed towards the grocery store for supplies where I challenged the kids to making dinner for the next two evening. Girls vs boys. The groups took off with their carts, a budget, and shopped for their items. Girls are cooking tonight and the boys are up on Monday evening.
After some sleep, we got ourselves moving, ate some breakfast and joined the lovely congregation of UACC in worship where the pastor gave a challenging sermon on Genesis 22. It gave us a good discussion topic over lunch.
We enjoyed an afternoon at the St. Louis zoo and are now back at the church. The girls are cooking their dinner and the boys are playing games of pool upstairs. Tomorrow's report will include news about our dinner!
