After two days of work at the church we "suffered" through a very long day of beach fun. Before I describe our fun today let me fill you in on the happenings at the church.
Yesterday, we finished painting the interior of the worship space at the church as well as painting the two small children's classrooms. Pastor Marino and another man spent their time welding metal supports together and laying a new tin roof over what was open space beside the classrooms, making it usable space for them.
While the work has been good, what has been even more exciting is the wonderful relationships we are building. Women, men, and children of the church have spent numerous hours with us just talking, playing, and preparing food. There have been laughs shared and tears shed as hearts are touched. Spontaneous worship was a highlight of Tuesday's activities.
Today we took a break from work (and gave the Costa Rican church a day off as well) and traveled to Tortuga Island. Our driver drove us two hours away to Playa Herradura where we got on a small boat which took us to Tortuga. There we went snorkeling, ate, played in the ocean and soaked up the sun rays. Many of us are pretty pink tonight!
Tomorrow we will head back to the church where we will do some more painting as well as finish one of the interior walls. The women are going to teach us how to make tamales, a skill I am hoping to take home with me!
Our time here is blessed indeed. The church has been so very welcoming to us and they have already touched our hearts. They are truly serving the Lord with love and gratefulness. Every mission trip I am reminded that while I intend to serve and hope to be a blessing to others, it is I who has been blessed by the love of those around me. God is good!
