September 2nd, 2020 - The Very Thirsty Women

9/2/2020

Scripture: John 4:1-32
Prayer: God of life open our hearts, open our minds, and refresh our spirits so that we can be closer to you and to one another.  Amen.
Reading: Growing in God's Love Story Bible pg. 236
I Wonder:
  • I wonder which part of the story you like best?
  • I wonder why Jesus walked through Samaria?
  • I wonder why the woman was at the well?
  • I wonder if you have ever been thirsty like this woman?
  • I wonder how the woman felt when Jesus spoke to her?
  • I wonder why Jesus did not go into the town with the disciples?
  • I wonder why the disciples did not ask questions when they returned?
I wonder if the villagers listened to the woman and came to hear Jesus?

Reflection: We reflected on Being Thirsty with a guided imaginary activity involving walking in the desert, saltines, and water.  We worked on what fills us up.  What fills you Up? Take a piece of paper and draw things that give you life.

Scripture: Luke 17:11-19
Prayer:  Giver of all,  help us to listen and to follow your teachings so that we may be closer to you and to one another. Amen.
Reading:  The Thankful Man pg. 244 from Growing in God's Love A Story Bible
Wondering Questions:
I wonder what part of the story you like best?
I wonder how it feels to be sick or disfigured?
I wonder how the men felt about Jesus?
I wonder how Jesus felt about the men?
I wonder why only one came back?
Reflection: We reflected on God's Big Family.  How are we all the same and different?  How important it is to have everyone included in God's Big Family.  We also reflected on an attitude of Gratitude.  Here is the link:

Scripture: Luke 7: 36-48

Prayer: God of grace,  open our hearts to receive others and to receive your Word to us today.  Amen.
Reading: The Thankful Women pg. 234
Wondering Questions:
I wonder which part of the story you like best?
I wonder if the woman was happy or sad when she came to Jesus?
I wonder why the disciples were so angry with the woman?
I wonder what the woman’s name was?

Reflection:  We reflected on how Everyone Belongs.  What did Jesus do to make the women belong?  What do we do to make people belong?   Here is a video song link:

Scripture: Luke 19: 1-10

Prayer: Giver of all,  help us to listen  and to follow your teachings  so that we may be closer to you  and to one another. Amen.
Story: The Short Man pg. 242
Wondering Questions:
I wonder what it is like to be so short?
I wonder how Zacchaeus felt when Jesus called him by name?
I wonder what Jesus and Zacchaeus talked about?
I wonder if it was hard for Zacchaeus to give away his money?
I wonder where you are in this story? I wonder what part of the story you like best?

Reflection:  We reflected on caring for others and how we can share our resources with others. What would it be like if you didn’t have enough food to eat? How do you think you would feel? What can you do to help children who do not have enough food? Here is a link:

If you have some more time to wonder, you can use these questions to start and wonder even more together:
  • I wonder which part of the prayer you like best?
  • I wonder which part of the prayer is hard for you?
  • I wonder what tempting places of danger are there?
  • I wonder what God’s Rule looks like?
  • I wonder how we can make this Prayer happen?
We reflected on Prayer during hard times.  We will recognize how God empowers us to live through difficult situations.  Our Activity/Work was a God’s Eye (Yarn, Popsicle Sticks, Scissors,).  Here is a link to an instructional video for a God's Eye.

If you have some more time to wonder, you can use these questions to start and wonder even more together:
  • I wonder which part of the prayer you like best?
  • I wonder which part of the prayer is hard for you?
  • I wonder when we have hurt God? others?
  • I wonder when others have hurt us?
  • I wonder if it is easy to forgive?
We  reflected on forgiveness.  Because of our choices we make as individuals sometimes we hurt God and others and sometimes we get hurt.  We will talk how forgiveness can help repair our relationships.

During our Work Time we made  Prayer Pail (plastic pail, Popsicle sticks, stickers, gems and markers).
Lastly Miss Judy shared with us a Video.  I wonder how this video shows how we might feel after we forgive or get forgiveness?

If you have some more time to wonder, you can use these questions to start and wonder even more together:
  • I wonder which part of the prayer you like best?
  • I wonder which part of the prayer is hard for you?
  • I wonder when we come close to the bread?
  • I wonder how the bread makes us come close to Jesus?
  • We will reflect on how we come close to Jesus.  How can we share our daily bread with the world

We reflected on how we can share our daily bread.  Our Activity was making Peanut Butter Cake in a Mug we then Light our Candle and Shared in Communion  with our Bread that we made.

Please take a look at the Peanut Butter Mug Cake recipe attached below.

Here are the wondering questions:
    • I wonder which part of the prayer you like best?
    • I wonder which part of the prayer is hard for you?
    • I wonder how the Kingdom of God is like a mustard seed?
    • I wonder how the Kingdom of God is like The Great Pearl?
    • I wonder how the Kingdom of God is like the seed planted in the good soil?
We reflected on The Kingdom of God through the Parables of The Sower, The Mustard Seed, and The Great Pearl.

How to Make Prayer Flags

We worked on prayer flags.
How to Make Prayer Flags
  1. Cut pieces of fabric to 5″ × 11″. Use materials you already have on hand.
  2. Fold the top down on each piece of fabric and stitch in place to create a 3″ sleeve, making the flag surface 5″ × 8″.
  3. Paint, stitch, applique, or collage the flags.
  4. Add words, journaling, or symbols as desired.
  5. Thread the flags onto a string or cord and hang them outdoors so the breeze will catch them and spread your intentions.
Make a flag every day, once a month, or just when the spirit moves you.
We finished by Judy Nickum demonstrated how to make a Crystal Garden - the recipe is attached below.

The Lord's Prayer - Story by Reverend Dick Gibson

If you have some more time to wonder, you can use these questions to start and wonder even more together:
  • I wonder which part of the prayer you like best?
  • I wonder which part of the prayer is hard for you?
  • I wonder which part of the prayer is about you?
  • I wonder where you have seen this prayer?
  • We reflected on different types and ways we could pray. I wonder when or how we pray?

We Prayed in Color by coloring the coloring sheets of The Lord's Prayer.  See coloring sheet in Illustrated Curriculum PDF pages 19, 21, and 23.  (You should have received this in the mail, please contact Pastor Lisa if you have not!)
We ended our time together by reading together Psalm 23 by Tim Ladwig.
