No matter where you are, or when you meet, we hope that you will enjoy this time with the story.

When you are ready to worship have someone in your house find the scripture in the Bible.  Some of the translations may be difficult to understand, so choose one that you can best understand.  If you want to read it online, check out this link.

Acts 1:3-8 and Isaiah 11:2-3

Watch this video fo the story, Gifts of the Holy Spirit
If you have some more time to wonder, you can use these questions to start and wonder even more together:
  • I wonder how the disciples feel when they receive these gifts of the Holy Spirit?
  • I wonder how the other followers of Jesus feel when they receive the gift of the Holy Spirit and the gifts the Holy Spirit gives them?
  • I wonder how Jesus' followers feel when they receive the gift of the spirit of wisdom?
  • I wonder what they will do with the gift of the spirit of wisdom?
  • I wonder what they will do with the gift of the spirit of understanding?
  • I wonder what they will do with the gift of the spirit of counsel?
  • I wonder what they will do with the gift of the spirit of awe of God?
  • I wonder what they will do with the gift of the spirit of joy in the presence of God?
  • I wonder what WE will do with these gifts?

  • I wonder how you live this prayer each day?
  • I wonder what is the most important part of the prayer?
  • I wonder if you wonder anything about this prayer?

OPCC Family Check-In

5/13/2020

This was our "Off Week" for the Family Check-In; we WILL have a OPCC Family Check-In by Zoom on Wednesday May 20.

Even though we did not meet this week for a Family Check-In we wanted to give you family activity to reflect on last Sunday (5/10)'s story of Creation.

First you might respond by looking up the scripture in your Bible.  Genesis 1:1-2:3
This is the scripture that was in worship last Sunday.
Let the children be as much involved with looking up scripture and or reading portions of our story as they are able.

ReVisit the Video and Wondering Questions from Sunday

Activities to Explore Together:
  • Scripture Reading (taken from the NIV translation) Psalm 8
O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the Earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.
From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise
because of your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger.
When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him,
the son of man that you care for him?
You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor.
You made him ruler over the works of your hands;
you put everything under his feet;
all flocks and herds,
and the beasts of the field,
the birds of the air,
and the fish of the sea,
all that swim the paths of the sea.
O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
  • Scavenger Hunt:  (After each item is found, follow with a wonder question?  You can develop your own wonder questions, if you so choose!)
    • Rock   “I Wonder how long this rock has been here?”
    • Dandelion  “I wonder why this flower is yellow?”
    • Feather  “I wonder how a bird flies”
    • Evergreen Tree  “I wonder why this tree stays green all year long?”
    • Spider or spiderweb  “I wonder how long it takes a spider to make a web?
    • Bottle Cap  “I wonder what animal left this here?
    • Bird’s nest  “I wonder if the baby birds have hatched?
    • Blowball  “ I wonder how far the seeds will go?” (blow the ball)

If you would like to join our next OPCC Family Check-In (May 20th) please check your email to make sure you got the invite, or email Pastor Lisa Engelken for the details about joining!

Until we meet again, until worship on Sunday, please enjoy this read-along-story of the book "The Beautiful World that God Made written by Rhonda Gowler Greene and illustrated by Anne Wilson using printing inks and collaged papers.
